Radon Testing and Mitigation

With the generally high levels of radon here on the Front Range it is very important to have your radon levels checked at least every two years. Temperature, moisture, and geological changes (mining, fracking, development) can greatly affect the easiest path out of the ground for radon gas. What may test safe in the summer could be a very different story in the winter. When it’s wet and cold outside, your home may become the easiest path for the radon to get out of the ground, increasing the radon levels in your home. Its odorless, tasteless, and you can’t see it, yet radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, so it’s the first if you don’t smoke. Be safe and have your levels tested. It really is nasty stuff, so please, know what’s in your home. By testing and acting on the results if necessary, you could add years to your life, especially if you have ever smoked. If you have been or are a smoker the carcinogenic effects from radon gas are around 8 times that of a person who has never smoked. It’s very easy and affordable to test for radon gas and correct if levels are high. We install a quality mitigation system using thick walled schedule 40 PVC and RadonAway fans. The systems are virtually maintenance free and only cost around $40-$50 per year in electricity to run. The fans have a life expectancy of around 10 years and can be easily replaced. Radon mitigation systems can be installed in any type of foundation, basement or crawlspace. We will provide before and after analysis of the radon levels and will guarantee levels at or below the EPA suggested level of 4pCi/L, though actual levels will often be well below that after mitigation.
